Who is DKS Iyengar on Yoga?


D.K. Iyengar, an influential yoga teacher and author, was born in 1943 in Karnataka, India, and began practicing yoga at a young age under the guidance of his father, Sri Krishnamacharya. D.K. Iyengar's deep understanding of yoga philosophy is reflected in his numerous books, including "Yoga for Stress Relief," "Yoga: A Gem for Women," and "Yoga in Action: Preliminary Course."

As a teacher, D.K. Iyengar emphasized the importance of adapting yoga practices to suit the individual needs of each student, focusing not only on physical fitness, but also mental and spiritual well-being. D.K. Iyengar's influence spread across the globe, as he taught yoga in India, Europe, and the United States. He founded the Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Chennai, India, and was a disciple of the renowned yoga master Sri T. Krishnamacharya.
